Living with Olivia: Why Did I Start A Blog?
*My Best YouTuber Voice* allllllright guys, story tiiiiiiime
So about a year ago I was hanging out with my friends and I was telling them about these skincare products that I was loving and my friend Tess told me, “Liv, I’m never going to remember this, you need to start a blog so that I can actually read about the things you suggested.” My other friends agreed and were hyping up the idea of a skincare blog.
-side note- My friend Mel and I use to make fun of people who would tell stories about themselves and say “…and everyone laughed.” Like how obnoxious.
But on the same note, I feel like I’m doing the same thing and it’s so cringey. I wanted to point out that I feel it too, okay? But alright, back to the story.
So like every time I saw my friends they asked me when I was going to start my blog. But I honestly had zero ideas about what I would ever write about. Like sure I work at Lush but I am no skincare guru, I couldn’t start a blog strictly on skincare.
I also know that I’m not a big writer so I honestly I always turned down the idea.
HOWEVER, like almost a year ago, I purchased a $0.99 domain name just in case I ever decided to start a blog, which I honestly at the time thought I never was going to do. (I actually purchased it on vday so that shows you what I was going through last year.)
I wanted to buy the domain name “livinwithliv.com” because I was using it as my *signature hashtag* (I know, I gagged too… I’ve done a lot of growing within the last year, OKAY?) Anyway, that was taken and the closest name they had was “witholivia.com” so I bought that. But I was totally uninspired especially since 98% of the world calls me Liv.
So literally a year goes by, and I totally forget I even bought the domain name. That is until I get an email from the domain site offering me $181 for my domain name. I literally couldn’t have said yes faster. I immediately logged into my account to sell it when I see that my domain name is actually estimated to be worth $1,180 (based on the amount of people who look to buy that name.) I’m extremely motivated by money so I put my name up for auction with a starting bid of $1000. I was so amped. I insta-storied the crazy luck that I had. I had a couple friends tell me not to sell and to actually start the blog. I was like yeah right! For $1000 (or even the $181) I’d start a blog with a different name. Like witholivia.com meant nothing to me because I wasn’t inspired by it at all.
However! The next morning I woke up and wrote down three pages worth of content ideas and sketched up the entire theme of “with Olivia.” I don’t know if you believe in God or signs from the universe, but I knew wholeheartedly that this was God telling me to do this for real.
There was also another crazy story that perfectly links up to support this vision, but I’ll save that to share at another time.
For now, I don’t really know or really plan for this to be more than an outlet for me to share and create. Hopefully you all will dig it as much as I do!
